How Much Does a Basement Renovation Cost in the GTA?

Do I need to move furniture or prep my home before you arrive?

Not much, we keep the process simple. Before we arrive, it helps to clear the wall area we’ll be working on and move any furniture that’s sitting against it. We bring all our own tools and do all cutting outdoors whenever possible to keep dust inside the home to a minimum. We also protect floors and nearby surfaces before we start. You don’t need to strip anything off the walls, remove baseboards yourself, or buy materials in advance, we take care of all of that once we’ve confirmed the plan with you. Most of our Brampton and Mississauga clients are surprised by how clean and low-disruption the job actually is.

This is one of the most common starting points for our clients, they know they want something, they just don’t know what to call it or whether it fits their space. That’s exactly what the free consultation is for. When we visit your home, we look at your ceiling height, existing trim, flooring, and the natural light in the room, and we help you narrow it down. A modern home in Caledon with clean lines and high ceilings is going to suit a very different wall treatment than a traditional home in Etobicoke with eight-foot ceilings. We don’t push a particular style, we figure out what will actually look right in your specific space, and we give you an honest answer if something you’ve seen on Instagram won’t work the way you’re imagining it.

In the GTA market, yes, but the key is choosing upgrades that read as quality rather than personal taste. Crown moulding in a living room or dining room, wainscoting in an entryway or hallway, and clean updated baseboards throughout the home are all things that buyers notice immediately and associate with a well-maintained property. They photograph well, they make rooms feel more finished, and they give buyers the impression the home has been cared for, which matters when someone is making a half-million-dollar decision. Where it doesn’t pay off is doing something highly specific, like an extreme geometric accent wall that might not match the next buyer’s taste. We’ve done jobs in Mississauga and Etobicoke specifically to help homeowners get ready for listing, and the feedback from realtors has been consistently positive.

This is a fair question and one we’re happy to answer honestly. A few things to look for: first, anyone quoting trim work without visiting your home in person is guessing, measurements matter, and wall conditions matter even more. Second, a very low quote usually means corners will be cut somewhere, whether on materials, finishing details, or time spent on getting angles tight. Third, ask to see photos of completed work, specifically corners, inside miters, and where trim meets ceilings. Those junctions are where skill shows. At LDS Reno, we give you a detailed written estimate after seeing the space, we use quality materials, and we don’t subcontract the work out. Louie does the job himself, which means there’s no handoff where quality can slip.

Yes, and this comes up often. Many of our clients in older GTA homes want to update a single room. For eg, add crown moulding to a master bedroom or install wainscoting in a hallway, without touching the rest of the house. We can typically match existing baseboard profiles, casing styles, and crown profiles because most of what was used in GTA homes over the past few decades is still available or can be closely replicated in MDF. We bring a sample of the new profile to compare against your existing trim before ordering materials, so you’re not left with a room that feels disconnected from the rest of the home. Even in custom-built homes in Kleinburg and Caledon where the original trim is more distinctive, we’ve been able to source or custom-cut matching profiles.
